* The house is not even remotely like the real house the Bell's lived in (see pics). I'm not sure that this is even the same property where the Bell's lived.
Would definitely recommend if you like pretending that some Native American arrow heads and old bland pictures are interesting.
Had the displeasure of meeting the legendary “Old Man in Overalls”. We paid $50 for one of the most boring, monotonous tours I’ve ever been on. I liked the female cave tour, but she didn’t even come close to compensating for the rudeness of her co workers. Bossy, rude and boring staff. The only fun part was laughing at how rude they were.
* A haunted house CD from Goodwill is more informative, spooky, and less expensive than this tour.
Now I will give an account of the negative aspects of the tour. Upon arriving, my husband and I wanted to buy tickets for a tour. The infamous "Old Man in Overalls" was sitting with his legs propped up in the ticket booth watching a video on his phone. There was no one in line yet we waited a minute and finally Mr. Overalls grunted, "What do you want?" His untactul approach gave the impression that we were nuisances. I was annoyed at unwelcoming manner in which we were greeted but we went ahead and paid $24 for two cave tours. The tour itself was about 30 minutes and I was pleased with the polite tour guide. However, I was not aware of cabin tours until the end of the cave tour. So we asked if we could go on a cabin tour. We were told to go to the ticket booth and we could get a cabin tour ticket. As we were approaching the ticket booth, Mr. Overalls shouted in a rude tone, "Can't do it! I am overloaded!" When running a business, it is best to offer your customers options while not minimizing the business's appreciation of the consumer. I would have been satisfied being told in a kind tone, "This tour is currently full, but I would like to take you on the next tour if you are willing to wait." But since we were given no such options, I watched from the car as it appeared that Mr. Overalls was leading a cabin tour for a group of unfortunate souls. I was annoyed at the customer service, but the Bell With Cave business should be annoyed that they lost ticket sales. If I ever go back, it will be to get documented footage of the incredible rudeness of Mr. Overalls.
Love this place. It is beautiful underground in the cave. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and we really enjoyed meeting her. If you have family visiting the near by area they will enjoy the historical location.
* The reports of the "grumpy owner" are accurate.
I suspect the bad reviews are from people who are not TN natives or southerners. We know how to show respect and kindness without arrogance & rarely have these problems. Did you say excuse me sir ? Or thank you when would be a better time? No you automatically were "offended" & now choose to make fun of an elderly country man. Disrespect at its finest. If you are into hauntings THIS CAVE is truly haunted. We saw an outline of the witch in one of our photos. Hair stood up on my arms the whole time I was inside. Dogs refuse to go into the cave. Cats go inside and bawl and will not leave. It is true and real and worth your time if you are respectful and understand how to approach people without arrogance and entitlement. Took me 30 years to get the guts to go on the tour and I lived within an 2 hours of the place my whole life. I heard stories and finally went several years ago. Unforgettable feeling of the creeps. bring your crucifix. She is in there!
* Each time the "legend" was told it was vastly different from the previous version that was told 2 minutes earlier.
The TLDR; version is -
Don't waste your money.
This has to be the worst attraction that I have ever visited. I wish I had read reviews before we went.
First I will give an account of the positive aspects of the Bell Witch Cave tour. First, I appreciate being able to go 500 feet into a lighted cave with a polite tour guide.
